Kyrylo Aleksandrov (real name Кирило Александров) — born in 1995, artist, performer. He comes from Mariupol, Ukraine, a city annexed by the Russian Federation as a result of military actions. In 2013, he migrated to Poland. He is permanently based in Kraków, where he is currently completing his Master's degree at the Intermedia Department of the Academy of Fine Arts and actively participates in the development of the local performance art scene.
Previously, he studied at the Department of Finance and International Economics at the Jagiellonian University (2014–2018). Since 2017, he has been co-creating Jakub Kowalik’s off-theatre "Scena Supernowa". He has performed numerous acting roles there, appearing in productions such as "The Skinny Soldier" (2017) and "Mars" (2025). He has also performed on other Kraków stages, appearing in "The Secret of the Glove" (2022) at the Kraków Opera and in "The Invitation" (2024) at the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre. Furthermore, he has participated in various improvisational activities at Scena Supernowa, such as the dance project "Soot" (2022), alongside Małgorzata Haduch and Paweł Łubkowski.
In his performance art, he develops autobiographical themes, with the primary motifs being the experiences of migration and war. This theme is evident in his numerous projects, starting from "The Hole" (2022), "Stray House" (2024), "Lawnmower" (2024), and "I Ate a Bun" (2024). In some of his performances — such as "Content Inconsistent with the Standard" (2023) and "Pulsating Canceling" (2025) — an active pacifist stance towards the war in Ukraine, ongoing since 2022, is also visible.
As part of "The Amateur of Sour Apples" (KTO Theatre, 2024) and "12 hours of what" (Grotowski Institute, 2024), he also explored the limits of bodily endurance, executing one 12-hour and one 24-hour performance. Occasionally, he creates performative interventions accompanying exhibitions, such as "Paprygunczik" (2024) within Magdalena Tryba's "Pockets Full of Stones" and "Gimnast" (2025) within Bogusław Bachorczyk's "Vlach" — both at the Shefter Gallery in Kraków. He has also presented his performances in other art institutions, including "Sunflower" at BWA Bielsko-Biała (2025) and "Seagull" at BWA Nowy Sącz (2026).
The primary medium of my art is the body, and the technique is movement — which I explore through performance art, contemporary dance, and butoh. I also create photographs, video art, objects, and exhibitions.
I mainly address autobiographical themes, centered on the experience of war and the directly related reality of migration. On the other hand, in my performative actions, I strive to affirm play, absurdity, and life itself in its constant change and unpredictability, according to the maxim of amor fati.
In my work, I aim for a broadly defined transgression — of the body, the mind, the status quo, as well as the experience of the audience members participating in my performances and exhibitions.
I feel a close affinity to the philosophy of butoh, where the body, immersed in improvisation, serves as a tool to express the sense of one's own existence and to search for the truth about it.
